NICE TO MEET YOU
The mission of this blog is to point you to the person and work of Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
With the shifting sands of the information age, we need to make sure we stick close to the solid truths found in Scripture. Jesus Christ, the Word, will provide a sure foundation to all who trust in Him. Information, often useless and lifeless, will blow one direction and then another, however, the Word of God will remain steadfast and will endure forever. Jesus is the Rock on which we can securely stand and the Refuge where we can shelter in the midst of a storm.
Through each post we hope that you are Encouraged, Challenged, and Equipped to share the gospel, make disciples, and fight the good fight of faith.
EMPOWER
This blog will not be able to empower you, however, it will point you toward the One who can; the Holy Spirit. The empowering to do, to will, to act, and to understand can only come from the Holy Spirit and this is where any Bible study, any daily devotion and, for that matter, any day needs to start; in Spirit filled prayer.
In the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesied of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, and spoke of the Holy Spirit “resting” upon Him (Jesus) and the functions He (Holy Spirit) would perform. “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:2, NKJV).
In the New Testament, we find out that this same Holy Spirit was not just to rest or fall upon Jesus and select people from the times of the OT, but is available to all who would call upon the Name of the LORD. After His resurrection, Jesus told the disciples to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit and that they “shall receive power” (Acts 1:8). And, just like Jesus promised, we see the record of this in Acts 2:1-4.
ENCOURAGE
The Apostle Paul instructed believers to exhort, or encourage “one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:25). The “day” is certainly drawing near! While this is best done in person, our goal is to do the best we can to encourage you to continue to “fight the good fight of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12).
Paul, even after being beaten and dragged out of a city, he thought it important to encourage and strengthen “the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22).
Again, Paul instructed the Thessolonians and, we believe, all believers to encourage each other when he stated “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:12).
CHALLENGE
Paul likened our walk with Christ to a race and stated “I discipline my body and make it my slave” (1 Corinthians 9:27). The Scriptures further challenge us to put off the old self and put on the new self (Ephesians 4:22-24).
Do not be satisfied with the status quo, with just existing, but realize that there is a race that needs to be run and a fight that needs to be fought. We need to put effort into this Christian walk, we are not called to sit still, but to move, to go. Not in our own power or might, but by the Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).
While it is never comfortable to be challenged, it is an important part of our Christian walk, for if there is no challenge, then there is no growth. Jesus consistently challenged His followers. The Scripture, itself, should challenge us and cause friction to occur; a friction between the spirit and the flesh. As human beings, our default is to operate from our carnal nature, however, we are called to “walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16). We should never become complacent or lukewarm in our walk and it is the Spirit breathed Word of God that provides that fire to burn within our hearts, thrusting us toward obedience and service to, and for, Almighty God.
